Election 2008!

Okay, so I am really into politics and have a love/hate relationship with election year. I love the excitement and intelligent conversations and debate that can occur, but I hate the divisiveness that is inevitable. It seems that most Americans can only deal in extremes. If they are voting for candidate Y then candidate X is EVIL. Not: bad for the country, have different political views, etc., but EVIL.

I just think that it is ridiculous. I consider myself a centrist who leans different ways depending on the issue. Environment? Liberal. Social Issues? Conservative. Economical? Centrist. Obviously something in the economic arena needs to change. I'm not placing blame, but something needs to change.

As for Prop 8? Both my husband and I voted yes and I will tell you why. It's not because we hate gay people or think that we are better than them. In fact if marriage was the only issue I would have had no problem with it, but it isn't.

The fact that my religion would have been forced to accept homosexual marriage or be punished by the government was the issue. Gay marriage doesn't honestly strike me as different than a civil union except in name. It is that my freedom of religion would be infringed upon. My religion would have to stop performing marriages in California in order to avoid losing their Tax-exempt status. That is unacceptable. The problem with gay marriage in the way it is being presented right now is that it takes away the rights of religious institutions to dictate their own moral standings.

Secondly, I is my job to teach my children about gender preference and not the education systems. I get to choose how it is taught and when. I get to choose I present it to my children. No one else. I am extremely passionate on this point.

Understand that I do not agree with homosexuality, and in this country I don't have to. I will always strive to protect the definition of the family, and I will never be okay with any law, precedent or amendment that infringes on my right to practice religion as I see fit. You can call me a bigot, racist (which actually doesn't make any sense), or anything else you have in your arsenal of hate. One thing that I have that you don't is a immovable belief in God and in the Bible.

God loves homosexuals just as much as anyone else, but he does not accept the sin of homosexuality. Don't ask me to.

You must be in Utah or something. It is interesting because around here our "candidate" didn't win but people are still mostly positive and willing to see what Obama will bring. No talks of evil 'round here!

Miss you guys!

Amen Amen Amen! If I see one more facebook status that says:

"I'm moving to Canada"
or
"America is going to Hell"

I am going to punch someone (which would most likely be Terry because I spend the most time with him...poor guy). But my biggest beef is that everyone is judging him with no basis in fact whatsoever. Just like you said - because he's not John McCain then he must be evil. DUMB! Anyway - thanks for writing that, now I know I'm not alone.
