Germany smells like...

Okay, so I've decided what Germany smells like. It's a combination of B.O. and cigarettes but sweeter and not nearly as offensive as it sounds. Particular individuals are offensive smelling, but overall it's just an intriguing smell. Anyways, other fun things I've noticed are that fanny packs are still socially acceptable apparel and that there is a new mullet-faux hawk hybrid that is catching on here.

I know, awesome.

Now I don't mean to bash on the lovely members of our church branch in Jena, but some of them are seriously weirdos. Like the man who has decided that black leather pants are appropriate sunday wear. I know he has slacks because I've seen him wear them. He is also one of those people that when he talks you just know that it's going to be awkward. I don't even understand what he's saying but the awkwardness becomes palpable whenever he talks. People start shifting in their seats and the teacher usually ends up having to cut him off at some point. There is another guy who seems sweet but has a tendency to stare and he doesn't understand the concept of personal space. Or the 20 something guy who is hitting on a sister missionary, seriously this guy won't give up. All this in a branch of maybe 20 people. Tyler says that I need to start taking pictures so that people will believe the stories we have.

Anyways, now for some pictures.

This is the inside of one of the original towers that were part of the wall around Jena.

A cute church that was decorated for a wedding.

There is a festival going on right now an there is lots of beer and german food and music. And Beyonce. Yep that's her, on the right, as part of a carnival ride.

More festival.

An American classic...wait, what?

What I'm eating here is delicious. It's a wafer with marshmallow cream and chocolate, mmmm.

Mmmmmm... Currywurst. Yes it is as good as it sounds.

Awesome VW bus. If you look closely you can see the AstroTurf covered dashboard.

Giant milka cow. It was animatronic and moved its tail and head. It would also blink which I thought was creepy. Tyler called me weird.

So those have been the latest adventures in Germany. Next weekend Wartburg which is where Luther translated the bible. I'll take lots of pictures.

It sounds epic! Milka...sigh. I love that stuff. Notice how my comments always seem to revolve around food? Inner fat girl! Miss you tons and can't wait to see you when you get down here to Riverside!!

That's so funny! Paris always smells to me like cigarettes and perfume, so much so that whenever I catch a whiff of the two together, it gives me a nostalgic feeling. And I agree-it's not really a negative thing, oddly enough!

I relate to the smell. When we got on the Shanghai subway Paul remarked how clean it smelled in comparison to New York. Then the subway started and all the air rushed through the open cars. It was the gentle smell of Asian B.O. and cigarettes. Not so terrible as New York bum smell, and I didn't think it was that bad. Though Paul said "I think China should invest in selling deodorant." I love your pictures, I wish I was there! We miss you.
